Attorney Jana Houghteling was born and raised in Colorado. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and obtained an undergraduate degree in history, graduating with distinction in 2014 and receiving the Chancellor’s Recognition Award.
At the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, Jana completed her J.D., attending with a full-tuition scholarship, and earned the highest grades in Negotiating Natural Resource Agreements and Toxic Waste. She also received a certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law. During law school, Jana competed as a member of Sturm’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition team and Jeffrey G. Miller National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition team. She also served as a staff editor for the University of Denver Water Law review.
During law school, Jana gained significant experience interning with in-house counsel at an oil and gas company. Before joining the firm, she worked with a boutique environmental firm, specializing in cleanup of highly contaminated sites, chemical accident response and prevention, and redevelopment of historically contaminated sites. She also practiced with a mid-sized, Denver firm where her practice focused on natural resources, particularly water law litigation, and ethics law.
In her free time, Jana enjoys drinking English breakfast tea with milk and honey, taking long walks around Washington Park, and reading good books, most recently, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.
